Only four players in NBA history have scored at least thirty-thousand points. These names include Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain. Three of these players have worn the purple and gold. That list added another name last night. Kobe Bryant became the youngest player in NBA history to score thirty-thousand points. He too was a Los Angeles Laker.

Kobe has had an amazing career. Drafted right out of high school by the Hornets, he was quickly traded to the Lakers in arguably one of the most lopsided trades in the history of sports. Kobe made his name in the Dunk Contest of 1997. The fact that he came straight out of high school, really showed what talent he had. Three straight championships with Shaq and the eighty-one point game in 2006 highlighted his tenure as number 8 for the Lakers.

After a few tough years, Kobe changed his number to 24 and things took off. He won the 2008 MVP Award and led the Lakers to the NBA Finals. After losing that series, Kobe was determined to win more titles. He did just that by winning back to back championships  in 2009 and 2010. Now he has five but he wants more.

His main goal is to reach as many championships as Jordan had with six. Now with stars like Nash and Howard he can achieve just that. Kobe is coming up the scoring list likely to pass Wilt later this season and reach Michael in the middle of next season. If Kobe passes Jordan in rings and points the conversation for best NBA player of all time will have a new factor. Congratulations Kobe. Hopefully you  will accomplish more and more in your last few years in the NBA.
